TREE-RING STUDIES IN THE SOMERSET LEVELS: FOSTER'S WALTON 1984.

Author(s): R A Morgan

A birch (Betula) brushwood trackway was examined at two locations. The northern site contained stems largely 15-30mm in diameter though with a wide range, while the southern site consisted of more uniformly sized stems 20-45mm in diameter. However, sample size was much smaller at the latter. Age was around 10-20 years, though often indeterminate. The material was comparableto that from other birch brushwood tracks in the Levels, and suggested the collection of locally available wood.
