SOIL REPORT FROM WATTLE SYKE, COLLINGHAM, WEST YORKSHIRE

Author(s): Matt Canti

Relatively fine soil layers between coarse or stony phases in the ditch fills have been analysed to test the hypothesis that they were substantially of wind-blown origin. Mineralogical and particle size data point to a purely local origin and a non-sorting depositional process. It is suggested that the fine fills represent natural bank erosion and the stony phases are anthropogenic.
