TREE-RING ANALYSIS OF TIMBERS FROM BLACK HALL BARN, KING'S PYON, HEREFORDSHIRE

Author(s): Nigel Nayling

Black Hall Barn, a grade II* listed cruck barn located in the village of King's Pyon, Herefordshire, was recently destroyed by fire. As part of the recording of the damaged remains, samples were taken from surviving timbers and subjected to tree-ring analysis. None of the cruck blades could be dated by dendrochronology but a collar and a spur from one of the five trusses produced a probable felling date range of AD 1440-1476.
