PLANT REMAINS FROM 118-26 WALMGATE, YORK.

Author(s): P Tomlinson

A total of forty-seven samples has been examined from the Walmgate excavation, ranging from the 9th to 20th centuries in date. Although many of the later samples were virtually barren of biological remains, the 9th-11th century pits had some well preserved assemblages suggesting that they were cess pits. The later pits, which may have been associated with other activities, such as industrial processes, did not contain any interpretable plant assemblages. Copies of the Appendices are held at the Ancient Monuments Laboratory and the Environmental Archaeology Unit. YAT Site Code: 78-9.8
