Author(s): P Budd

A small amount of material excavated from Norton Fitzwarren Hillfort in 1968, 1970 and 1971 and consisting mainly of fired clay, hearth lining and fuel ash and fayalitic slags was examined. The nature and possible origins of this material are discussed and it is concluded that the technological activity most likely represented was small scale iron smithing in the Roman or Post-Roman periods.
