ETTON, CAMBRIDGESHIRE; POLLEN ANALYSIS OF THE CAUSWAYED ENCLOSURE DITCH.

Author(s): R G Scaife

Etton, Maxey Neolithic Causewayed Enclosure was excavated by the Fenland Archaeological Trust between 1982 and 1988; that is, prior to it's destruction by quarrying. The perimeter ditch of this enclosure contained waterlogged deposits comprising peats, silty peats and silts. Pollen analysis of these deposits has been carried out. Pollen data obtained indicate an initial phase of scrub, followed by an open/non-wooded landscape. Evidence of cereal cultivation in the interior of the enclosure has been postulated.
