Fiskerton: Scientific analysis of corosion layers on archaeological iron artefacts and from experimental iron samples buried for up to 18 months

Author(s): V Fell

In 2002 a project was set up to monitor the changes in condition of experimental modern materials placed in the vicinity of the Iron Age causeaway at Fiskerton, Lincolnshire. This report describes the analytical methods and gives the results to date for the experimental iron samples, as well as the characterization of the corrosion products of twelve archaeological artefacts recovered recovered during excavations and monitoring at Fiskerton in 1981, 2000 and 2001.
