Chemical Analysis of Residues on Ceramic and Glass Sherds from the Canon's Infirmary, Spitalfields, London

The residues adhering to thirty-two ceramic and glass sherds from the excavation of the Canons’ Infirmary at Spitalfields were analysed by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. A variety of substances were found in the residues, including lead and mercury, substances that are recorded as being used in medieval medicine.
