ASSESSMENT OF METALWORKING DEBRIS FROM THE BEDERN EXCAVATIONS, YORK

Author(s): Justine Bayley

A small proportion of the late medieval metalworking debris known to have been found on this foundry site was assessed. It comprised metal waste, a few clay mould fragments and a few crucible fragments, some of which appear to contain coloured glass rather than metal. Larger quantities of clay moulds and also some iron slag are thought to survive too. Recommendations are made for the further work required to adequately publish these finds.
