Homeside, 7 Church Road, Oare, near Faversham, Kent : Architectural Investigation Report

Author(s): Geraint Franklin, Treve Rosoman

Homeside (7 Church Road) has an origin in a timber-framed house of probable late-16th century date. In c.1823, it was extended to the west with a three storey front in red brick. The fine French scenic wallpaper was reputedly hung in the back parlour of the house in 1836. From at least the early 19th century to the early 20th century, Homeside was owned and occupied by the Redman family, a family of oyster merchants and landowners. This report was undertaken for the South East Region of English Heritage in order to inform decisions regarding the conservation of the historic wallpaper of this Grade II* listed building. The report includes a description of the fabric, and a brief account of its development and owners, derived largely from historical research.
