TREE-RING ANALYSIS OF TIMBERS FROM BEVERLEY GATE, HULL, HUMBERSIDE, 1986-90.

Author(s): C Groves

Tree-ring analysis was carried out on timbers from late medieval-post medieval structures at Beverley Gate, Hull. All non-oak samples were identified and two site master curves were obtained from oak timbers. The 72 year master curve remains undated but the 140 year chronology spans the years AD1475-1614. A terminus post quem for felling of AD1580 is given by re-used timbers from a possible bridge. A felling date range of AD1620-1665 is obtained for timbers re-used in a coffer dam, indicating activity on the site during the early-mid seventeenth century.
