Settlement Earthworks at Lamport, Buckinghamshire

Author(s): Graham Brown

Between March and September 2004 English Heritage undertook an archaeological investigation and analytical field survey of earthworks of a deserted hamlet at Lamport, as a contribution to the University of Leicester's Whittlewood Project. The survey identified building platforms, property boundaries, tracks and cultivation remains of the settlement, which was subsumed within Stowe Park in the 18th and 19th centuries. Two settlement foci were identified and the hamlet appears to have originated in the medieval period as a regular settlement, later developing to a more dispersed form.
