Almshouses, Fakenham Road, Beetley, Norfolk

This row of 3 almshouses was built in 1838. An inscription above the centre porch states that they were: "Erected by Rebecca Pearce endowed by William Pearce in 1838 for 3 poor aged couples". At this time there was no old age pension and most people rented their homes. This meant when they became too old to work they lost their home. Those without family to support them relied on charity such as this to look after them.
