Council Housing, 7-10 Church Road, Bergh Apton, Norfolk

These two pairs of bungalows and linking wall were built by the former Loddon Rural District Council in 1951. They are part of a larger scheme by the architects Tayler and Green. They formed the first phase of the village housing at Bergh Apton. The scheme itself was a fine example of these architects' work. It was exemplary as a sensitive and self-contained extension to an existing community. It uses its woodland setting to great advantage to create a new `village green'. The completed scheme received a Civic Trust Award in 1957 and a Housing Medal in 1961.
