St Mary in the Castle is a former church building which is grade II listed and built in the Neoclassical style. It sits as the centrepiece of the delightful Pelham Crescent above the regency Pelham Arcade on Hastings Seafront. 6, 7, 8, & 9 Pelham Arcade, which is the subject of the grant, houses the St Mary in the Castle Cafe, which with its restored lantern roof is a bright and welcoming space. In July 2015, St Mary in the castle was let to a newly formed charitable trust that operates t as an art and music venue along with the cafe and exhibition space in the Crypt. The trust aspires for St Mary in the Castle to be one of the most unique arts and music venues on the south coast, showcasing international and local performers in a rage of artistic disciplines whilst maintain the buildings historical integrity.


Opening Arrangements

The St Mary in the Castle cafe is open 6 days a week. The Trust is looking to run conducted tours of the entire venue during Hastings old town carnival week and Hastings week. Also they intend to offer the venue to be open as part of the Heritage open days.


A) It is on the A259 on Hastings Seafront directly opposite the Pelham Car Park. B) Hastings station is approx. Half a mile away C) There are major bus-stops outside the building with access to all parts of the tow.
