All Saints, High Road

All Saints, High Road, Mettingham, Suffolk NR35 1TD View on map

Grade I listed medieval parish church built of flint and stone, restored in 1898. The round tower dates from 11th century or earlier and the chancel has a rare wooden arch. Notable features include a 15th century octagonal font and a high level doorway in the nave wall (discovered in 2006) which leads to a room probably used by a travelling monk. Window recess above existing window discovered in 2009.


Opening Arrangements

4 June - 21 August: Saturdays and Sundays 10.30am - 4.30pm and during Heritage Open Days in September 10.30am - 4.30pm. Access at other times by prior arrangement with Mrs Evans (tel: 01986 895113) or Mrs Buck (tel: 01986 893647).


On B1062 (Bungay - Beccles). Church entrance is on main road next to Tally Ho! Tea Rooms. Rail: Beccles (6 miles).
