17th century packhorse bridge with 5m limestone arch designed to carry pedestrians, riders and livestock over Heltondale Beck. Designed wide enough for just one horse with a low parapet in order not to interfere with the panniers.

Directions

From Penrith: Kemplay roundabout, A6 Shap, mini roundabout, right to Tirril (B5320). Turn left (Haweswater). Continue through Askham, past Helton - 200 yards right, signed Widewath Farm. Rail: Penrith (7 miles).
