Friarside Chapel, Low Friarside

14th century shell of a hermitage and then hospital. Scheduled monument and listed at Grade II*, currently a roofless ruin. Repair of the Chapel has recently been completed with Historic England grant aid.


Opening Arrangements

Access is available on request at any reasonable time (for a minimum of 28 days a year). The site will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday 1st-2nd September 2018 from 11am-3pm.


Road: entrance by B6314, opposite Gibside National Trust entrance with 1/2 mile walk to the chapel. Railway: Blaydon 5 miles; Metrocentre 5 Miles Buses: Various to Rowlands Gill
