180ft diameter circular fort commanding the harbour entrance built in 1808 to defend the port against a Napoleonic invasion. Surrounded by a dry moat, there are 11 guns on the battlements. 18 casemates which originally sheltered 300 troops in siege conditions now house a series of small museums.


Opening Arrangements

1 May - 31 August: daily 10am - 4pm. Rest of year: Sundays, 10am - 4pm.

Admission Charges

A120 to Old Harwich. Rail: Harwich Town (250 yards). Bus: route 104 Colchester - Harwich bus station (250 yards).
