Grade I listed church, founded in 1220 with spire added in 1360. Early English in style with fine late Victorian re ordering to include oak spiral staircase, richly carved pulpit and reredos in oak and lime. Frosterley marble effigy c1310 . Pre civil war chancel screen, puritan brasses and Lewis organ.

From B6317 follow signs for Holy Cross church - Old Ryton village. Church gates situated near 'Ye olde crosse' pub. Rail: Metro Centre (4 miles). Bus: No's 10 and 10c from Metro Centre (No 10 involves a short walk).
