Holy Fathers of Nicea Church, Hexham Way, Sutton, Shropshire SY2 6QY View on map

Former chapel dating from 13th century with 17th and early 19th century modifications on the estate of Much Wenlock Priory. Remains of late 14th century wall paintings, including a martyrdom of St Thomas Becket, conserved in 2005. Owned by the Greek Orthodox Church.


Opening Arrangements

All year; Thursdays 10:30am - 12:45pm; Saturdays 6pm - 7:30pm; Sundays 10am - 1pm. Guided tours available during Heritage Open Days 2016: 12:30pm - 3:30pm. Access at other times by arrangement with parish priest (01939 291078)


To the south of Shrewsbury. Turn onto Sutton Road from the B4380. Turn left onto Hexham Way. The church is in a field beyond Sutton House Farm currently under development for housing. Rail: Shrewsbury (1 mile). Bus: routes 8 and 436.
