14th century summer residence of The Abbots of Glastonbury, now a farmhouse with 16th century alterations. L shaped in plan, the interior has a former open hall with large stone hooded fireplace. Two storey south porch with a stone figure finial in robes postulated as Abbot Richard Whiting of Glastonbury. Range of 18th and 19th century outbuildings incorporating remains of medieval fabric.
March 25th -28th, April 30th, May 1st, 2nd, 28th - 30th, July 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, August 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th, 21st, 27th - 29th. Open 9am - 5pm. In addition, wall paintings can be viewed by prior arrangement (tel: 01458 860 242).
On the B3151 in Meare on the east side of the church. Rail: Castle Cary (12 miles). Bus: First 668 (Cheddar - Street).
