Murgatroyd’s Brine Pumps are a scheduled monument located on Brooks Lane in Middlewich. The site includes an original hand-dug shaft dated 1889, which is still intact with three sets of brine pumps, two are John Thom of Patricroft and the third is a submersible Beresford pump. The pumps and associated equipment have all been restored and interpreted with a new walkway through the interior. The exterior houses the original gantry and two Gwynne pumps, alongside displays including a salt pan and hooker cell.

Opening Arrangements

Open 12 noon to 4pm on the following days :- 30 April - 1 May, 21-22 May, 25-26 June, 30-31 July, 20-21 August, 17-18 September. Open for group bookings between 2 May to 21 October, and by appointment all year round. Charges apply for group visits.
