Fortified manor, first recorded in 1317. Originally occupied by Thomas de Hollinside. In 1730 it became part of the Gibside estate owned by the Bowes family. Listed Grade I and a Scheduled Monument.


Opening Arrangements

Open daily as part of Derwent Walk Country Park and Derwenthaugh Park. Open all year round.


From the A694 at Winlaton Mill or Thornley Woodlands centre. South east of the Derwent walk, within the Derwent Walk Country Park. Rail: Metro centre (3 miles). Bus: Numbers 45, 46 and 46a (Newcastle to Consett) run along the A694.
