St Anne, Market Place

St Anne, Market Place, Bishop Auckland DL14 7NJ View on map

This Grade II church was built in the 1850s, and is situated in the Market Square in close proximity to Auckland Castle, the former home of the Bishops of Durham. Internal fittings include: chancel panelling and reredos, octagonal pulpit with brass handrails, octagonal font, choir pews with poppyheads and pierced flowing tracery, nave pews with shaped ends and nailhead decoration. Late 19th and early 20th century stained glass.


Opening Arrangements

Open from 9.00am-2.00pm every Thursday and Saturday. It is not open on these days for the two weeks over the Christmas holidays. It is open every Sunday for worship.


Situated next door to the Town Hall in the Market Place. Road- A688 from Durham & the A689 when arriving at Bishop Auckland- follow signs to Auckland Castle. Rail- Bishop Auckland (1 mile) Bus- regular buses from Darlington (1,1B, 5 & 5A, X1) & Durham (6,56)
