St Benet's Abbey, Horning, Norfolk NR12 8NJ View on map

Site of the medieval abbey beside the River Bure. Parts of the gatehouse remain attached to an 18th century brick windmill. Within the whole monastic precinct are the foundations of the abbey church, monastic fishponds and other earthworks, all surrounded by a precinct boundary ditch.


Opening Arrangements

Daily: 9am - dusk.


Limited access by road. Turning near Ludham Hall Farm marked by a small wooden fingerpost pointing down the farm lane which leads out to the long concrete farm road over the marshes. OS reference: TG 383 157. Site more accessible by river, moorings close by on the river Bure.
