12th century church of St Giles is a Grade II* listed building within the Pontefract Town Centre Conservation Area. Although mainly Georgian in aspect, foundations of the original Norman chapel have been found and the existing North Arcade is believed to be of 14-15th century origin.

Opening Arrangements

Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3pm; Saturday, 8.30am to 12.30pm; Sunday, 7.30am to 12 noon. Community events also take place during the evenings, particularly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until 9pm, and on several Saturdays until 10pm.

Directions

From A1 North and South - via M62 - leave J32 and follow A639. From East and West - follow A645. From South - follow A639. Rail: Tanshelf (400 metres), Monkhill (800 metres). Bus: Station in Horsefair which is approx. 150m from the church.
