St Hieritha, The Square, Umberleigh, Chittlehampton, Devon EX37 9QW View on map

Late 15th - 16th century church dedicated to St Hieritha, martyred here in the 7th century. A cathedral-like building with a tall west tower decorated with pinnacled buttresses and described as 'unquestionably the finest church tower in Devon' (Hoskins). The interior contains a late 19th century reredos of The Last Supper and fine memorials to the Giffard and Rolle families.

Summer months: Daily, 9:30am - 6pm. Winter months 9:30am - 4pm.


On B3227 approximately 5 miles west of South Molton. A Pilgrim's Cross is at the top of the road leading to the village. Rail: Umberleigh (2 miles). Bus: Infrequent service from South Molton or Barnstaple.
