St James, High Street

St James, High Street, Isle of Grain, Rochester, Kent ME3 0BS View on map

Grade I listed parish church 12th -13th century and set within 200 yards of the Thames estuary facing the North Sea. The tower dates from 1903 - 5. Repair to main door inside the porch is from a Dutch Warship and was made when seamen from the Dutch fleet broke into the church. A full description of this event hangs in the porch.

Opening Arrangements

Every Sunday open to public 10 - 11am and 12:30-1pm . First Saturday each month 10-12 noon or by appointment


A2, A228 into village, left into High Street, pass playing field and school. Rail: Strood (12 miles). Bus: Arriva service 191 to Isle of Grain (hourly from Chatham or Strood).
