St James, Mill Lane, Ormside, Appleby, Cumbria CA16 6EJ

Ancient 11th century Norman Church. Built by St Osmund, nephew of William the Conqueror. Built on an artificial mound from Roman times for defence, a tower was added in 12th century. Many artefacts have been found including the Ormside bowl now in York museum. Much of the original building can be seen.
