St Margaret, Bacton Road

St Margaret, Bacton Road, Paston, Norfolk NR28 9TA View on map

Parish church mainly of the 14th Century although the chancel is more likely late 13th Century. The west tower, nave and chancel are in line and there is south porch. The nave is of a remarkable width (over 29 feet) and carries a thatched roof supported by scissor-framed rafter couples. The 14th century rood screen is finely carved, and the chancel houses against its north wall important monuments to the Paston family. Other points of interest are the late 13th century piscina and triple sedilia in the chancel, the 14th Century font and the extensive wall-paintings to the north wall of St Christopher and the three living and dead.
