St Mary, Norton

St Mary, Norton, Teynham, Sittingbourne, Kent ME9 9JU View on map

Grade I listed parish church 12th - 14th century with tower, nave and chancel. Built of flint and part rendered. Restored, and porch added in 1872. Notable monuments include grey marble wall plaque to Baptist Piggot, d.1677 and in the nave a white wall plaque to Right Hon. Mary Elizabeth Lady Sondes, d.1818, by Jonathan Seward depicting a robed woman rising through clouds to blazing sun, directed by winged angels.


Opening Arrangements

1 April - 30 September: Saturday and Sunday 10am - 4pm. Other times by arrangement with the key holder.


From A2, turn into Norton Lane, then 1st left into Provender Lane. Church is accessed through an orchard and the gate is ¼ mile on the left. Rail : Teynham (2 miles). No bus route.
