St Mary the Virgin, Church Street, Bishops Lydeard, Somerset TA4 3AT View on map

Grade I listed parish church, mainly late 15th century, with alteration and extension of 1860-62 by Jeboult of Taunton. Built of coursed and squared Lydeard red sandstone and noted for its fine tower with pierced tracery battlements. Interior houses work by Comper, carved wooden pew ends and the original charter granted by King Edward I in 1291 to hold fairs and markets.


Opening Arrangements

All year: daily 9am - 5pm (except during services on Sundays at 8am, 9.30am, 4.30pm and Wednesdays from 10.30am - 11.30am).


6 miles north west of Taunton on the A358 Taunton to Minehead road. Church is in the centre of the village. Rail: Taunton (6 miles). Bus: No 28 from Taunton.
