12th century crypt beneath the chancel, including parts of the old east wall of the Medieval church. 15th century chancel with a set of 18 finely carved misericords or choir stalls. 15th century font and a Victorian nave with plaster ceiling and stained glass windows by Burlison and Grylls, Clayton and Bell and others. There is also a 12 bell tower.

From M6 Junction 7, continue on A34 towards Walsall town centre until Six Ways roundabout. Take Birmingham Street (not Birmingham Road) exit; follow sign for St Matthew's church. Continue past Blue Coat Comprehensive. Turn right at New Street and immediately right again under the archway into the Church Close. The church will be directly in front of you. Rail: Walsall. Bus: 51 and all buses into Walsall Bus Station, then a short walk to the church (0.6 miles)
