Designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott and one of his three finest parish churches (grade II star). Described by Pevsner as 'massive, striking and austere, the whole enhanced by picturesque setting'. 1860 Early English style with plain interior and chancel as lantern between four arches of tower which houses ring of 8 bells. Fine Nicholson organ; sheet metal scrolls, west window, lychgate.


Opening Arrangements

Open between 9.30am and 5pm excluding Sunday services, other Great Festivals and Holy Days, occasional weddings, funerals and school events (perhaps 10 during the year in term time).


Leafield is situated on the road between Finstock (on the B4022 Witney to Charlbury road) and Shipton-under-Wychwood (on the B4437 Fulbrook to Charlbury road) and on the A361 (Burford to Chipping Norton). Nearest railway station is Charlbury (about 5 miles). Bus service: 243, from Combe to Witney, stops at the church three times a day Tuesdays and Fridays. Village Community Bus, from Shipton to Witney, stops at the village green twice a day.
