St Paul, St Paul's Drive, Alverthorpe, Wakefield, West Yorkshire WF2 0BT View on map

Grade II listed, built 1823-5. Architect Atkinson and Sharpe. This fine example of a simple gothic style ' Million Waterloo’ church commands a dominant landscape position. Walls of ashlar sandstone with slate roof and substantial castellated west tower. Internally a single cell worship space with west gallery, extended east room and crypt.

Directions

A638 from Wakefield towards Dewsbury. At the junction with the M1 at J40 turn back towards Wakefield on the A638 and exit at 1st junction on the left signed Flanshaw Trading Estate. Go through the trading estate and exit left and continue to the traffic lights, then turn left then 2nd right up St Paul's Drive Rail: Wakefield Westgate (2 miles) catch the free bus to Wakefield bus station or walk. Bus: Routes 104, 212 from Dewsbury.
