Early 14th-century medieval gateway built to defend the entrance to Winchelsea from its inner harbour. Stand Gate stands astride a public highway.


Opening Arrangements

Free access available at all times to the exterior. Can also be viewed by pedestrians from footways to the north, south and east.


At the top of Strand Hill, can be reached from the A259 from either Rye or Hastings. Rail: Winchelsea (1 mile). Bus: hourly buses from Hastings and Rye stop about 200 yards away.
