The Shell House, Hatfield Forest, Takeley, Nr Bishops Stortford, Essex CM22 6NE View on map

Grade II listed rare garden house or folly, c.1759, built by the Houblon family. Constructed of knapped and boulder flints, shells, glass fragments and brickwork with a low pitched pantile pediment gabled roof.

Saturdays and Sundays, 10am - 4.30pm.


From M11exit 8, take B1256 to Takeley. Signposted from B1256. Rail: Stanstead Airport (3 miles). Bus: Excel Coaches No 307 (Saffron Walden to Stanstead Airport), alight Takeley Street (Green Man), then ½ mile.
