Get to Know Catherine Dewar, our New Planning Director for the North East and North West
Catherine Dewar has worked in the heritage sector for 22 years. For the next year, Catherine is now the Planning Director for the North East as well as the North West, leading our work in providing advice, grants and support for those involved in managing the historic environment.
Originally from the North East, Catherine worked for Portsmouth and Birmingham City Councils in conservation and design roles before moving back to work for English Heritage (now Historic England).
Catherine led the North East Development Management Team at English Heritage and advised on the design of regeneration schemes and new developments in historic areas. Having studied Town Planning with Urban Design she has a strong interest in understanding how people interact with urban environments and in making best use of historic buildings through innovative design.
For the next year, Catherine is now the Planning Director for the North East as well as the North West at Historic England, leading our work in providing advice, grants and support for those involved in constructively managing the historic environment.
