First World War Aircraft Hangars at Old Sarum Airfield Added to the Heritage at Risk Register

Three former First World War aircraft hangars at Old Sarum airfield in Wiltshire have been added to the Historic England Heritage at Risk Register in 2020.

Historic England has been alerted to the deteriorating condition of one of the three surviving First World War hangars at Old Sarum Airfield.

The three privately owned hangars here are highly unusual survivors of the early days of aerial combat, and are listed at Grade II*. We have written to the owner of the airfield offering our help in formulating plans for the repair of one of the hangars, which has been added to the Heritage at Risk Register in 2020.

We are working alongside officers at Wiltshire Council to find a resolution that will see this important building repaired and hopefully brought into active use.

Please check back for further updates on this building. If you would like further information, please contact John Ette, Partnerships Team Leader, on 0117 975 0687.
