Crucibles, Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, Sheffield, South Yorkshire

Pictured is a stack of crucibles outside one of the forge buildings in this model village, which was largely built in the 18th century. The crucibles held broken metal ingots. When melted in this way the resulting steel was of better quality than that created by other methods.
