Bournemouth Pier, Bournemouth, Dorset

Looking down on to the pier. It was constructed in 1878 and opened in 1880 by the Lord Mayor of London. A steamship is tied up alongside the pier. Many tourists used to travel to seaside resorts by steamer, particularly before the railways reached places. Piers were built both as a tourist attraction and also as a place for steamers to tie up.
