Drinking Fountain, Southampton, Southampton

This fountain was built in memory of Mary Anne Rogers. It is dedicated to her heroic action in saving passengers' lives. She was the stewardess on a ship called "Stella" which sank on the 30th April 1899. She gave her life jacket to a female passenger and refused a place on the overcrowded lifeboat in case it would cause it to sink. As the ship sank she was reputedly seen praying and heard to say 'God have me'.
