Former Workhouse at Shifnal Hospital, Shifnal, Shropshire

This building was originally Shifnal parish workhouse. It was built in 1817. It was added to in 1840-1. This was when it became the Shifnal Union Workhouse. The additions cost around £800. The workhouse never had more than 100 inmates. It is an example of a workhouse that was built before the standardised designs of the 1834 Poor Law acts. The buildings later became part of Shifnal Hospital.
