Stained glass, Spenfield Hall, Headingly, Leeds

Victorian artists often chose to decorate stained glass using medieval-style images. This window from the 1870s shows the Victorian ideal of a domestic scene, with a woman preparing dinner for the family. This image probably tells us more about Victorian attitudes to women than medieval cooking.
