The Palace Pier, Madeira Drive, Brighton, Brighton and Hove

The Palace Pleasure pier dates from 1891-1901 although it has been altered several times since then. In Victorian times people had to pay to walk along the pier. This meant that richer tourists were able to avoid the large crowds of working people on day trips from London. The pier was damaged during the war and reopened in 1946.
