Christ Church, Brunswick Square, Gloucester

Christ Church, Brunswick Square, Gloucester GL1 1JZ

Christ Church was built as the 'Spa Church' in the early 19th Century and became Christ Church in the Diocese of Gloucester when it could no longer be sustained by voluntary contributions. The Church consists of a Nave formed in seven bays with a projecting polygonal apsidal sanctuary to the east, gallery and rooms to the west end and vestries to the North. Below is a large crypt with burials and family tombs formed in brick. The main body of the Church is in a neo-classical style with external walls covered in rough cast concrete render over a dressed limestone plinth. The west front is in a monumental French style in stuccoed brick with vermillion terracotta. The 19th Century roofs are generally shallow pitched and covered in slate, the later 20th Century roof over the Vestry is flat and covered in asphalt.
