Church of St Marie, Manchester Road, Bury - Bury
Victorian Perpendicular Gothic style church by J Harper of York in 1841. The gable is surmounted by an octagonal lantern tower with traceried openings and enriched battlemented parapet. There had been considerable structural movement of the tower, resulting in fractured stone and heavy rainwater leakage into the interior. The National Lottery Heritage Fund supported the repair of this element. Further investigation is now planned following movement of high-level stonework to the east gable and nave.
