Church of St Mary Steps, West Street, Exeter - Exeter
C15 fabric. Restored 1868-72 by Edward Ashworth. Chancel re-ordered 1966 by Lawrence King. Nave, chancel, south west tower, south aisle and chapel, north west vestry. The church is very compact, which reflects its constricted site just within the walls of medieval Exeter. Slate roofs. Red Heavitree stone in large blocks with limestone dressings. A National Lottery Heritage Fund Grant for Places of Worship funded the repair of the tower, completed in early 2018. There are cracks in the south east corner and the aisle roof structure and covering are poor. A further phase of work will be needed.
