Christ Church, Wanstead Place, Wanstead E11 - Redbridge

Gothic-style church built as a chapel of ease to St Mary the Virgin and still sharing the parish. It was built between 1861 and1867, to the designs of George Gilbert Scott; construction is of ragstone with ashlar dressings under slated roofs. The valley gutters were renewed in 2013. A specialist survey in the same year identified masonry at belfry level in a dangerous condition. Some emergency repairs have been done but the condition is worsening and there is a risk of falls of stone. The tower is in need of a comprehensive repair programme. The parish is investigating sources of funding.
